Air Pollution Control

Mist eliminators play an important role in minimizing the discharge of pollutants to the atmosphere.

Flue gas desulfurization (FGD)

In flue gas desulfurization (FGD) units, FLEXICHEVRON® mist eliminators remove entrained scrubbing liquids to minimize fouling of downstream equipment before the flue gas enters the stack. These mist elimination designs typically utilize spray wash systems to prevent solids buildup. Single-stage or two-stage mist elimination designs are commonly applied to achieve maximum hydraulic capacity and efficiency.

Sulfuric acid

In sulfuric acid manufacturing plants, FLEXIFIBER® mist eliminators remove sub-micron acid mists from the air stream before it is discharged to the atmosphere. The chemical reaction between SO3 and H2O is exothermic and creates a fine distribution of mist droplets that present challenges for conventional mist eliminators only utilizing impaction separation. FLEXIFIBER® mist eliminators utilize Brownian diffusion, among other mist collection mechanisms, to provide high efficiency in the sub-micron liquid droplet range.

Air or gas scrubbers

In air or gas scrubbers, DEMISTER® mist eliminators located in the top of the tower prevent any liquid entrained from the sprays and/or packing in the tower from being carried out to the atmosphere. Conventional and high-capacity DEMISTER® mist eliminators can provide efficient separation of liquid droplets in scrubbers. If solids concentrations present problems for knitted wire mesh, FLEXICHEVRON® mist eliminators can be utilized to extend run time. Plastic and metal materials are available for your specific process conditions.

Gas or steam turbines

In gas and steam turbines, FLEXIFIBER® mist eliminators provide high-efficiency removal of sub-micron droplets from going to the atmosphere. These sub-micron mists are formed by rapid vaporization and cooling of the oil in parts of the lubrication system of the turbine. Natural venting or induced flow models are available depending on available space for these systems.
